The Tennessee Conference on Social Welfare (TCSW), consisting of over 160 agencies and 1,500 individuals invested in improving human services in Tennessee, will host a free training session worth two continuing education contact hours at Woodmont Hills Church of Christ on August 18th, 2008 from 1-3pm.
The training will feature Lowell Perry, CEO, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle TN (BBBS), and Carla Snodgrass, Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse TN (PCAT), speaking on many critical issues surrounding Tennessee youth. A loose agenda centered on PCAT’s ‘Strengthening Families” initiative, followed by BBBS’s “Community Succession Plan” is free for TCSW members and $25.00 for non-members (includes membership). The training session will educate attendees on resources and tactics for preventing child abuse through parent education and how later in youth, the impact mentoring plays educating our future leaders and reducing crime and poverty.

Lowell Perry Jr. is the Chief Executive Officer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee. Big Brothers Big Sisters is the over 100 year old mentoring organization that facilitates professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships between a caring adult and a child in need. The agency served a record 1523 children in 2006 and 1863 in 2007. The agency was named last year as one of the 35 top BBBS agencies out 423 nationwide in overall performance and was selected as a finalist for Agency, CEO, and Board of the Year. Perry was selected as CEO of the Year by BBBSA and the Marvin Runyon Award winner in Nashville.

Perry is an experienced business development and marketing executive with an extensive broad-based background including joint ventures, strategic alliances, start-ups, automotive, turnarounds, professional sports management, training & facilitation, and performance management, with special expertise in minority business development as a viable growth strategy.
A Yale graduate and polished communicator with extensive professional on-camera, radio, and live presenting experience, Perry has been featured in numerous sales and marketing training films and many commercials. He has also appeared in a number of feature films, including Déjà vu, starring Denzel Washington and Nothing But the Truth, featuring Kate Beckinsale.

His public speaking career began in earnest during his tenure as a front office executive with the Seattle Seahawks pro football team, where he negotiated free agent contracts, handled team travel, and served as the team’s primary community liaison. Popular keynote topics have included: “Time To Take Action”, “Time, Talent, Treasure,” “Prevention versus Incarceration,” and “What Are You Passionate About?”

Prevent Child Abuse (PCAT) provides training for professionals and parents and directs the activities of community volunteers. We provide primary prevention programs, parent support programs, public education, and advocacy. Our programs include Parent Pathway, Nurturing Parent Education classes, Circle of Parents, Kids Don't Come With Instructions Parent Helpline/Domestic Violence Hotline, and ongoing public awareness efforts including the April Child Abuse Prevention Month Campaign.
