Understanding and Treating Co-occurring Disorders

Millions of people suffer from co-occurring substance dependency and mental health issues. Cooccurring
disorders can complicate the assessment, treatment and recovery process. Some of the
more prevalent mental health disorders that co-occur with substance dependency include depression,
anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder and personality disorders. This training will explore key issues
in the area of differential diagnostic assessment, integrated treatment strategies, and address on
going recovery needs for individuals with co-occurring disorders.
The presenter, Susan M. Hoisington, PsyD, LP, is the Executive Director of Hazelden's Clinical
Services. Hazelden is known for its high quality addiction treatment, particularly in the area of cooccurring
disorders, and recovery services as well as education, research, and publishing products.
Housing for May 18 is available at the Holiday Inn/University of Memphis, which is part of Fogelman Conference
Center. The rooms are singles with a queen size bed. Pay by way of the Alcohol & Drug Council. All room
reservations and fees must be received by May 8. All unreserved rooms will be released after May 8. All
