NIATx is dedicated to improving access to and retention in addiction treatment and making process
improvement part of the culture of managing and delivering treatment. Access and retention are
some of the greatest predictors of successful recovery. The presentation will include the following:
./ The Key Principles of the NIATx process improvement model
./ How to Involve the Consumer in Making Improvements
./ How to Improve in Areas that Affect Successful Treatment Completion and Recovery
./ How to Conduct a Quality Improvement Project (change project; plan-do-study-act approach)
./ How to Organize and Facilitate a Change Project Team

The presenter, Kim Johnson, serves as co-deputy director for NIATx. She also directs the Adopting
Changes to Improve Outcomes Now (ACTION) Campaign in partnership with several national
organizations also dedicated to improving access to and retention in treatment. Kim played a key role
in recruiting nearly 1000 organizations nationwide to join the campaign.

Housing for May 25 is available at the Holiday Inn across the street from the UT Conference Center. All are
double bed rooms. The price is the same whether shared by one person or two. Pay by way of the Alcohol &
Drug Council. All room reservations and fees must be received by May 8. All unreserved rooms will be
released after May 8. All conference registrations with payment must be received by May 20.
