Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands

What Legal Aid Society Is. We are an independent nonprofit law firm. We have represented persons with low incomes, for no fee, in a variety  of non-criminal matters, since 1968.  We represent persons in TennCare, disability/SSI, housing, tax, consumer, domestic violence, and now special  education.
Why Special Education. There are many agencies doing great work  in special education, but there remains greater need than there are resources,  especially free legal advice and representation to persons who are very poor, in
Nashville.
How  To Get Help From Legal Aid.  You and/or your staff can tell your clients/customers  that they may be able to get free legal help from Legal Aid.  The process  is easy.  The person calls our main number, 244-6610, and leaves his/her  name and telephone number.

If you are unsure if a child would  benefit from our advice and counsel or representation, please refer the child or his/her family member or other involved adult to Legal Aid.  We will talk to the person, do a legal checklist (for special  ed and if applicant wants, for other issues like eligibility for TennCare, disability,  consumer issues, etc.), and assess if we can help.  We may provide  individualized legal advice, information about legal rights to strengthen  self-advocacy efforts, support and help from a legal advocate, or  representation by a lawyer.
